Stupid Blog

Sorry if anyone has noticed that my blog background keeps changing!  I keep trying to change it to a Christmas background, and it will stay for a little, but then it keeps changing back automatically...argh!!

Fall

After two months into the “twos,” Rylee seems to already be getting better – hopefully it lasts!!  She doesn’t seem to be throwing as many tantrums, less hitting, and more listening ;)  Rylee seems to be catching onto this potty training thing pretty well, she has mastered going #1, but #2 is taking a little longer…if she’s gotta do a #2, she runs to her room, grabs a pull up and tells us to put her diaper on!  She has had a couple successful #2s on the potty, but just not consistently – I am just glad she tells us to put a diaper on rather than go in her undies!

Halloween seems like such a long time ago, but I thought I should probably put a few pics up from Halloween!  Rylee had a lot of fun going to Vala’s pumpkin patch this year, we actually had the pleasure of going two times!!  The second trip was for a nighttime bond fire with friends and I swear that pumpkin patch was just as crazy at 9pm as it is in the middle of the afternoon, but I love it!  Rylee was Abby Cadabby this year for Halloween, I seem to have a pattern going for having the same theme for Rylee’s birthday and Halloween (last year was a cupcake theme for both).  John took her trick-or-treating to a few houses in the neighborhood and then we headed to my friend Andrea’s parents’ house and then to my dad’s.  She didn’t completely get the trick-or-treating part, she just thought it was an invitation to walk right into complete stranger’s houses!  It was a lot of fun watching her though!

At the beginning of November, we ventured to Tennessee for my cousin Tonya’s wedding.  We flew out of Kansas City (it was more than $300 cheaper, and there was a direct flight to Nashville), and Rylee did awesome compared to last year.  We took her car seat with us on the flight so she was strapped down, turned on Mickey Mouse Clubhouse on the DVD player, gave her a few snacks, and she was set!  We stayed in Nashville for two nights for the wedding, which was a lot of fun!  We walked to downtown Nashville and shopped around Saturday morning, then headed back to the hotel to get ready for the wedding Saturday night.  Rylee had a little stomach bug Friday and Saturday (there was a small puking incident at the rehearsal dinner, but with my catlike momma reflexes, I think I got her out of there before anyone knew what was going on!), so I was hoping after a good nap before the wedding, she would feel a little better for the wedding.  It seemed to work, because she had a blast dancing!  The wedding and the reception were amazing.  The reception was in an old brick building in Nashville and they had an awesome band.  It was a lot of fun to have my mom’s whole side of the family together!  I don’t think EVERYONE had been together since my brother’s wedding more than 10 years ago!  They also had glow necklaces and bracelets at the reception, which Rylee was a big fan of J  All-in-all, we had a successful trip to Tennessee!

Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving, I know our family has a lot to be thankful this year…now on to Christmas!  Hopefully this “Elf on the Shelf” thing will keep Rylee and the terrible two’s away for the month of December J

Rylee's 2!!

I can't believe our baby is 2!!!  She is turning into such a toddler and certainly makes it known that she is entering the terrible twos!

On Rylee's actual birthday, September 13th, we took Rylee to the zoo and her Uncle Steve tagged along too.  I think she enjoys the zoo more each time she goes, and I think it might just be because she is more aware of everything around her.  We had a lot of fun and Rylee got to go on a carousel for the first time with mommy.  She was a little freaked out at first about all the crazy looking animals to ride on, but once it started moving she was fine.

Rylee's birthday party was a lot of fun!  She got to wear a birthday outfit made just for her and I made all of her decorations.  We had a great turnout, awesome weather, and ate tons of yummy food - smoked pulled pork sandwiches (made by Papa Tom), jambalaya, fruit salad, pasta salad, and an Abby Cadabby cake for dessert.  Rylee's slowly getting the hang of opening presents, but she still doesn't care so much about opening them.  She of course got spoiled though!  She did much better this year with her cake.  We practiced blowing out the candles on her actual birthday so by the time her party came around, she was a pro.  She also ate her cake much better than on her first birthday since she was able to use a fork (Rylee's not a big fan of getting messy) :)

We were actually lucky we were all healthy by the time her birthday rolled around.  Rylee got into some poison ivy in August that seriously covered her little body.  LUCKILY it did not seem to itch too bad for her or it would have been a nightmare and she would have been miserable. That stuff seemed to take forever to completely go away and when it finally did, Rylee then caught some yucky virus that gave her a temp at times into the 104s!  Thankfully, I have friends that are pediatricians that I can call when the Dr's office is closed (it was the Sunday of Labor Day weekend)!  She looked so pitiful when her temp was that high, but with a little rest and tylenol, it finally went away after a few days.  Let me tell you about going into mommy panic mode when that thermometer read above 104 degrees!!

Rylee is slowly getting the hang of going potty on her potty chair.  When we are home, we just leave her without any bottoms on and she just goes potty on the potty chair when she needs to.  She then of course runs to the cabinet yelling "M & M's"!!! We have yet to leave the house without putting a diaper on her, but hopefully we will be able to master that soon!  We will also be transitioning Rylee out of her crib once her last two molars come in, so after that, all aspects of my baby will be gone :(

I think the hot temps have finally went away for good and fall has arrived!!  We have enjoyed a lot of play time outside and can't wait to visit the pumpkin patch - I can't wait for the smell of hay and kernal corn at Vala's!!!

I haven't been very good about updating so now that we are getting towards the end of summer (even though it still feels like mid July!), here's a little bit of what we have been up to this summer through pictures:

Playing at the Park

Rylee's 1st time experiencing the College World Series

(Zesto's Icecream!)

Swimming

Rylee's 1st time at the Children's Museum

Uncle Kirby's Baseball Games

Rylee's 1st time golfing

Rylee's 1st time "camping"

Even though it felt like we were going to melt most of the summer with temps in the upper 90's or even low 100's, we made the most of it and enjoyed it despite the heat.  I didn't realize we did so many "firsts" for Rylee this summer until I just did this post!  It has been such a blessing having Rylee in our lives these past two years and am looking forward to many more!  Although we hoped Rylee would have a sibling on the way by now, hopefully she will someday get to teach a little brother or sister all the new things she learned this summer :)  I honestly can't believe it, but in just a few short weeks, we will be celebrating Rylee's 2nd birthday!!!  I think everything is set for her fairy themed birthday party (Abby Cadabby inspired of course!) and hopefully she will do a little better eating her cake this year ;)
